Use of UMBC Oral Histories
A policy of the Special Collections
Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery

This policy governs the use of all UMBC-related oral history recordings, transcripts, and related documentation held by the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery.  These include but are not limited to the interviews conducted by Dr. Edward Orser for the 30th anniversary of UMBC, the UMBC Founders Oral History Project conducted by the Martha Ross Center for Oral History, which began in 2001, and subsequent oral histories conducted on campus in relation to the 50th anniversary and general historical campus research.

Original media, digital copies, transcripts and related documentation for the oral histories are located in the Special Collections department of the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery.  All items must be viewed in the Special Collections Reading Room and researchers are required to follow all stated procedures.  Reproductions may be requested in accordance with Special Collection's standard Rights and Reproductions policy.   Transcripts and digital copies may not be available for each interview; these may be produced upon request at cost to the researcher.

Permission to reproduce the interview, in any format, is required and may be requested through Special Collections.  Publication fees and permission requirements follow Special Collection's standard Rights and Reproductions policy.  If a transcript is available, the citation should use the transcript as the source, not the video or digital audio.  In cases where a transcript has not been produced, the citation should be verified by Special Collections staff.

At this time, only UMBC-affiliated researchers may view the oral history materials.  Unaffiliated researchers should request permission to view the materials from the Special Collections.
