Fixing Special Characters
Find each item in MD-SOAR. Check the title (dc.title), citation (dc.identifier.citations), and abstract (dc.description.abstract) for problems with line breaks. Check the work itself for subscript, superscript, or other unusual characters. If a problem is found:
Login to MD-SOAR if not already logged in.
Click the pencil icon on the record where you need to make corrections.
Find the element where you need make corrections, then click the pencil item next to it. Make your change, then click the check mark. If the contents are long, you make want to copy and paste to word, make changes there, and then copy and paste back into MD-SOAR. Special characters are fixed by searching for the correct character in the unicode tables (SYMBL (◕‿◕) Symbols, Emojis, Characters, Scripts, Alphabets, Hieroglyphs and the entire Unicode ). If you don't find the character, consider alternatives to use instead. If you can’t think of one, ask Michelle. If the changes to special characters are extensive, copy and paste into word it and use find and replace to make the correction, then copy and paste back into the MD-SOAR record.
When all the changes are made to the record, go to the top or bottom and click “save”. When the save is successful, click back and check your work.
