Google Searching Tips

  • Simple techniques for when you're getting too many irrelevant results:

    • search for the title and the author's last name together

    • search for the title and the journal title together

    • for scholarly journals, search Google Scholar using it's advanced search: https://scholar.google.com/#d=gs_asd

    • go the the journal's page and search within the journal for the title and author

  • There is an advanced Google search page with many options here: https://www.google.com/advanced_search

  • You can search with operators, such as "quotes" to search for an exact match. Other operators are here: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433
