Searching ORCID
Go to ORCID
Do a search, then click "Advanced Search." Do all searches in "Advanced Search."
Put the last name in the last name box. Put the first name in the first name box. If you don't have the first name, try to find it using the UMBC Directory. Put "University of Maryland Baltimore County" in the institution box. Then click "Search." When you get search results, look for an exact name match, and if you have one, go to the next step. If that doesn't find anything, put "UMBC" in the institution Box and click search and look for an exact name match, and if you have one, go to the next step. If you still don't have an exact name match, search without anything in the "institution" box, and if you have an exact name match or many exact name matches, go the next step. If you still haven't found an exact name match, there is no ORCID for the person.
If you find an ORCID record or records with the same name, verify it's the correct ORCID for the person, by finding "The University of Maryland, Baltimore Country" or "UMBC" as the institution. If it has that, it's the correct ORCID and you can go to the next step. If the record (or records) with the exact name match don't have any institution, if there's a reasonable number of records, check any works given on the record(s) so see if they give UMBC as the affiliation of the person–if works on the ORCID give UMBC as the affiliation of an author, it's the correct ORCID and you can go to the next step. If you haven't found a correct ORCID at this point, there isn't one (or there isn't one that can be verified as being the correct persons).
Enter the name as given in the right hand column in large bold green letters.
Enter the ORCID URL in the ORCID field.
Use the back button to return to the advanced search screen to search the next name.
