Gift journal processing procedures
Because these shelves are used for other purposes by CM they are only a temporary storage for these journals, so Serials staff should process them in a timely manner.
Shelves in room 157 are numbered.
CM staff only will put gift journals on the shelves and attach an inventory sheet to shelves.
The inventory sheet will be numbered to designate on which shelf/shelves the journals listed are placed.
Serials staff will take inventory sheet and check holdings.
Serials staff will pull out journals that are needed for collection.
Serials staff will designate on slip that remaining journals may be recycled.
CM staff will recycle these journals.
Per serials librarian, we will not be adding any miscellaneous or individual issues of photography serials which are rejected by Special Collections. These are only useful if they are missing from an existing title in the collection. These journals can go directly to the booksale.
If the shelves are needed or if they are full:
CM staff will box the journals and include an inventory sheet in each box.
Serials staff will need to process the journals from boxes. These journals will not be unpacked by CM staff when the shelves become available.
Serials staff will recycle any unwanted journals from these boxes and also recycle weeded or unwanted journals. These do not need to come through CM.
