Leisure Reading Collection - Collection Management Procedures
An Amazon wishlist was created to facilitate donor contributions to the Leisure Reading Collection. All donors will be thanked, as always, by Collection Management and by the Friends of the Library (via Library Administrative Assistant) for purchasing a book for the LR Collection.
There are several ways to donate.
Donors may select a title from the wishlist and order it
they may send a check for $50 and designation of the wishlist title they would like to donate
they may send a check for $50 and designate a non-wishlist title they would like to donate
they may send a check for $50 and not designate a title
Books can be ordered:
through the Wishlist by donor http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/JPP6TEXQGUYV
through the online order form, fund Leisure Reading, by library staff. http://aok.lib.umbc.edu/bookorder/bookreq.php
Bookplates will always be “Gift of”, however donor may also add to or change that to:
“In honor of”
“In memory of”
If book is ordered via the Wishlist
The book will arrive from Amazon and be addressed to Collection Management, and should be given to Collection Management librarian
CM Librarian will update spreadsheet and give book tostaffer, with information to be included on bookplate
Staffer will give donation information (book title, author, donor address, etc) to CM staffer who will send donor thank you letter and information to Friends database
Staff will give same information to Library Administrative Assistant for the Friends thank you letter
Lidia will make the bookplate, and will take the book and bookplate to Acquisitions staffer.
If a check is received with a wishlist title designated:
Library Admin. Asst. will notify CM librarian (and Acq. libn) as to the amount, book title and donor information.
Staff will order the book through the regular online order form, fund code - Leisure Reading. Notes field may include necessary information.
Staff will update the spreadsheet
CM libn will provide donor info to CM staff for bookplate creation and donor thank you letter
CM staff will create bookplate and give to Acq.staff with book title information
If a check is received with a non-wishlist title designated:
Librar Admin.Asst. will notify CM libn. (and Acq. libn.) as to the amount, book title and donor information.
If donor has designated a title CM libn. will check catalog, etc for dups., and appropriateness. Titles already in the general collection will not be duplicated for the Leisure Reading Collection.
If there are no problems CM libn will request the title through the online book order form
If already owned or not appropriate CM libn will select a title from the wishlist and order it through the online order form. (Or donor may be contacted and asked to select another title?)
CM libn will order the book through the regular online order form, fund code - Leisure Reading. Notes field may include necessary information.
Staff will update the spreadsheet and notify Lib.Admin.Asst. of title purchased
CM libn will provide donor info to CM staff for bookplate creation and donor thank you letter
CM staff will create bookplate and give to Acq. staff with book title information
If a check is received but no title designated:
Librar Admin.Asst. will notify CM libn. (and Acq. libn.) as to the amount and donor information.
CM libn will select a title from the Wishlist and order it through the online book order form. Notes field may include necessary information.
Staff will update the spreadsheet and notify Lib. Admin. Asst. and Acq. libn of title purchased.
CM libn will provide donor info to CM staff for bookplate creation and donor thank you letter
CM staff will create bookplate and give to Acq. staff with book title information
CM staff will review the wishlist on occasion to check for titles that we may have received through other gift donations.
