How do I enroll a student with an Incomplete grade in my Blackboard course?

Summary

Tell Me

If a student would like to finish their Incomplete work and they need Blackboard access to do so, the best practice is to extend their access to the Blackboard course shell for the term matching their enrollment records. Students should not be enrolled in a current course's Blackboard shell unless the student has re-enrolled in the course for the current term.

By extending the student’s access to their registered Blackboard shell, the student's assignments and activity in Blackboard will match their official enrollment records. This practice aligns with institutional policies regarding Incomplete grades: "If an incomplete grade is granted, students may not re-register for or participate unofficially in the course in a later term as a means to make up the incomplete course work." For more information, please see the "Incomplete Grades" section in the Catalog.

To extend a student’s access to a prior course in Blackboard, please refer to How do I allow a student access to a completed course (Course availability override)?

If the student cannot be enrolled in the course shell matching their enrollment records due to instructor availability or another issue, the Department Chair or Program Director must submit an RT ticket to request an alternative accommodation.
