Why can't I add another user to my Blackboard course?
Only officially enrolled students can access a Blackboard course. Faculty can add TAs, graders, course builders, and other support roles (e.g., SI-PASS, interpreter, etc.) to their courses. Student enrollments in Blackboard courses are managed directly based on PeopleSoft enrollments. Blackboard organizations, for learning experiences that are not connected to official course enrollments, support the manual enrollment of participants.
Tell me
UMBC faculty are not restricted at this time from adding non-student users to their Blackboard courses. Please review this FAQ -> How do I add a teaching assistant (TA), second instructor, or guest to my Blackboard course? However, sometimes an instructor may not experience an issue when attempting to manually add a user to a course:
In an Ultra course, the instructor may encounter a "no results" error message.
This error may occur if the student was previously enrolled in the course but dropped it from their UMBC schedule – as a result, they are now disabled in the Blackboard course roster. The student may also be waitlisted for the course, but the drop overrides access.
Resolving a Disabled Student
Only a Blackboard system admin can re-enable the student to bypass the enrollment audit protections. Please verify the student has dropped the course, then open an RT ticket with the student's username, your course ID, and the reason for requesting the student's restoration to your Blackboard course shell because they are on the waitlist.
NOTE: The student will still need to resolve their class schedule to be enrolled in the course. The drop may override as disabled, even after a student has been re-enabled.
If a student has dropped a course and is not on the waitlist, for accreditation purposes, the student will not be enrolled in the course.
