Why is DocuSign requesting my location?

Tell Me

  • When signing a DocuSign document for the first time, the browser will display a dialog box asking for permission to share your location.  Simply click "allow" to take full advantage of the geolocation functionality.

  • Different browsers will have slightly different options in the dialogue box. For example, Firefox has a check box asking if it should remember your choice, while Safari has the same, but says it will only remember for one day. Check your browser preferences to manage which sites can access your location and whether you want the dialogue box to appear in the future.

  • DocuSign does not require that signers share their location information in order to sign a document; it is completely optional.

  • DocuSign requests location in order to include geolocation information in the Certificate of Completion as part of the full audit trail of a document, though its not required.

  • The information also allows DocuSign to display the 'Signed in Location' on a map. If enabled, the completed documents can link to a Google Map Pin showing where the signing took place.
