Checking Transcripts

  1. Open the transcript file in Notepad.

  2. Copy and paste the transcript into a Word document. Change to a better 12 point font.

  3. Select a way of listening the podcast that easily allows you to go back and forward a few seconds at a time. Download it from MD-SOAR and listen to it using the media player or one of the platforms that the podcast is on listed here: https://ihppod.org/.

  4. Add the title as a heading formatted like this:  I Hate Politics Episode 232: The Challenges of Balancing Taxation and Spending and make it link to the podcast.

  5. Change URL’s to a link that displays the name of the website that they go to, e.g.

    UMBC at Shadygove instead of  shadygrove.umbc.edshadygrove.umbc.edu.

  6. The name of the producer of the I Hate Politics podcast is Sunil Dasgupta. Find and replace all misspelling of his name.

  7. Find and replace I Hate Politics to make it all upper case.

  8. Find and replace washington dc with Washington D.C--city names, county names, street names, organization names should all be upper case as well as the first first letter of the words of spelled out acronyms, eg. Parent Teacher Association, PTA.

    1. While listening to the podcast, add Heading 2’s for the following sections as appropriate

      o   Introduction (the first paragraph that states what the episode is about

      o   Advertisement (the plug fo the Shady Grove poly sci program

      o   The beginning of each interview, saying who is being interviewed, eg. Interview with Montgomery County's Chief Administrative Officer, Rich Madaleno

      §  If there are significant topics changes within the interview, add Headings 3’s for each topic

      o   Summary (a paragraph near that end that summarizes or repeats points from the episode.

      o   Conclusion

      o   Credits: The paragraph or paragraphs at the end that says that’s all for this episode and Sunil says who he is and who the musician were and asks people to tune it to the next episode

  9. While listening to the podcast, find the correct spelling of people’s names using the MD-SOAR record, and if they’re not present in the MD-SOAR record, by googling them. If you’re sure a name is wrong and you can’t find it, email Sunil Dasgupta to ask about the correct spelling.

  10. While listening the podcast, indicate music by typing in music when it occurs. If there are lyrics, add it after Music:

  11. While listening to the podcast, speakers given as Speaker 1, Speaker 2, Speaker 3, should be replaced with the name of the speaker using find and replace as you learn who each speaker is.

  12. While listening to the podcast, check and correct URLs.

  13. While listening to the podcast, check and correct acronyms

  14. While listening to the podcast, correct the sentences, any incorrect words, any missing words, upper and lower case where it should be, and missed changes in the speaker.

  15. The name of the assistant producer of the I Hate Politics podcast is Daniel Gelillo. Find and replace all misspelling of his name.

  16. Use the same file name as the audio file but add _Transcript to the end of it.
