Titles, Abstracts, Rights, Rights URI, and Embargoes

  • Transfer alternative titles and embargoes from the notes to the appropriate column. Note that if the embargo date has already passed, it the embargo doesn’t need to be added.

  • Complete the rights and fill in the rights URI column based on the content of the rights.

    • Some rights statements have elements that need to be filled in. Check for them and add them where necessary.

    • If the rights statement is blank, fill add this: This item is likely protected under Title 17 of the U.S. Copyright Law. Unless on a Creative Commons license, for uses protected by Copyright Law, contact the copyright holder or the author.

    • For works on Creative Commons licenses or in the public domain, fill in the rights.UR column.

      • If the rights statements says “This work was written as part of one of the author's official duties as an Employee of the United States Government and is therefore a work of the United States Government. In accordance with 17 U.S.C. 105, no copyright protection is available for such works under U.S. Law.||Public Domain” OR “This is a work of the United States Government. In accordance with 17 U.S.C. 105, no copyright protection is available for such works under U.S. Law.||Public Domain”, put https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/mark/1.0/ in the dc.rights.uri column.

      • If the work has another Creative Commons license, find the its URL by Google searching and fill it into the dc.rights.uri column. For example, Attribution 4.0 International” has the Rights URI https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/,

  • If there is no abstract check for one or an alternative summary of the work, and if you find something, fill it in.
