Connecting to Retriever Home
Overview
To enhance student connectivity and provide a seamless experience, UMBC's Division of Information
Technology (DoIT) has recently launched the Retriever Home wireless network across all residence halls. This
service is designed to give students a secure, home-like network experience, with easy access for all their
personal devices; including phones, laptops, tablets, printers, gaming consoles, Roku, Amazon Alexa, and
more.
Note: Retriever Home uses residence hall registration information to approve device connections. Devices will
only connect successfully in the residence hall the student is registered in. Anytime they're outside their
building, they will be able to connect using eduroam as always.
If you are living on-campus, your unique wifi password for Retriever Home in your building will be automatically created. To look up your Retriever Home wifi password, go to MyUMBC, click on your profile picture in the top-right, and click “View Profile”. You should see a section labeled “Housing”:
Click the “Show Password” button to display your Retriever Home wifi password. This password is only for use with the Retriever Home wifi network, and does not apply to any other UMBC services. Your Retriever Home wifi password is automatically generated and cannot be changed.
If you have recently changed residential buildings, there may be a delay before those changes take effect in the wifi system.
While in your residence/room, connect your devices by selecting the Network or WiFi icon and
choosing the Retriever Home wireless network from the list shown.To join your Retriever Home wireless network from your device, simply paste in the password shown in your MyUMBC profile. This is not the same as your UMBC account password.
