How do I turn off Course Messages in my Ultra course?

Sending a message through Course Messages is the only means of sending email in an Ultra course. Instructional Technology cannot disable the tool in only one course. However, instructors may change the default settings for Course Messages to restrict how students may send messages. Please note that because students may be accustomed to sending messages to their instructors using this tool, instructors are encouraged to include a clear statement in their syllabi and in Blackboard regarding expectations for communication if email or another communication method is required.

Tell Me

  1. Select the Course Settings menu in the top right corner of your Ultra course.

  2. Course Messages default to "Students can message anyone in the course." To limit messaging options, select the desired alternative setting. For example, if "Students can only reply to messages" is selected, then students will only be able to respond to course messages sent by an instructor.

  3. When composing a message, instructors may indicate whether students can reply to a message or not. Deselecting "allow replies to this message" will prevent students from replying to a Course Message using the Messages tool in Blackboard.
