How do I assign separate activities to student groups in Ultra?

Course groups may be created by selecting Groups on your course's main page. Alternatively, you may create groups by selecting “Assign Groups” in the settings for an assignment. Use group sets to assign multiple groups to a single assessment. Please see Blackboard’s Help documentation about Groups in Ultra.

Tell Me

  1. Create the Ultra assignment for the first group. See How do I create an Ultra assignment?

  2. Click the gear icon to open the additional settings panel.

  3. Scroll down the panel and select Assign to Groups.

  4. Click Show All to expand the list of student names.

  5. Click on the student names you would like to assign to the group. Ultra will outline each student's name in blue as you select.

  6. Next, click on the (...) menu and choose +Create a new group.

  7. Optional: Rename the group so it will be easier to identify later for reuse.

  8. Click SAVE.

  9. When the Groups panel closes, finish any other assignment settings. Then click DONE.

  10. Repeat the process for each group's activity.

What you will see

Instructors will see all group activities as they are created with each group assigned.

What students will see

Students will see only the group to which they are assigned.

What the gradebook will look like

When you open the graded activity for each group, you will only see those students who are assigned to it.

When you view the gradebook itself, each graded activity is isolated to the group. Students who are not assigned to the group will be exempt from the activity.
