How do I connect to the UMBC Residential Wired Network using a PC running Windows 7?
To use your Windows computer with the UMBC Residential Wired Network, you should first register its wired network address (MAC address).
If your software requires connections that are being blocked by the ResNet firewall, see How do I exempt my computer from the Residential Network firewall?
Note
If you already plugged your computer into the network jack, you will need to disconnect and reconnect the network cable after following these steps.
To register your computer, you'll need to find out its wired network address (MAC address).
Click the Start button.
In the Run text box, type cmd. This will open the command window.
At the command prompt, type ipconfig /all.
Copy down the "Physical Address" (aka the MAC address) from the "Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection" section.
Close the command prompt window.
Then, follow the steps in How do I register my device for use with the Residential Wired Network at UMBC?
