What exactly are badges and micro credentials?

Micro credentials are used to recognize educational achievements by demonstrating mastery of certain skills or competences. A digital badge represents the accomplishment of a micro credential, just as a diploma represents the completion of a degree program, with the exception that micro credentials do not appear on a student's official transcript. Instead, people may publicly display the granted badge on their electronic portfolio or LinkedIn page, giving prospective employers a clear indicator of their talents.
