Promoting your content on the myUMBC Homepage

The myUMBC homepage is seen by thousands of people every day and is a great way to get the word out about your group’s announcements and events. This feature is free to departments and official student organizations on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are a few requirements to use this feature:

  • The content must be published in a public, official group run by a department or student organization.

  • To promote the content, you must be an admin of the group. You do not need to be the creator of the content.

  • The content must have a thumbnail image.

  • The content should be appropriate for all UMBC audiences.

  • A group can only promote something once every 3 days and can only schedule 10 promotions in advance.

Promoting Your Content

  1. Publish a Post or an Event with a thumbnail image.

  2. Once published, click the Promote button in the right-hand column.
Note: If you do not see a Promote button, either you or your group do not meet the requirements above.

  3. On the Create Promotion screen, select which day you would like to show on the myUMBC homepage. Clicking on a day will advance the view forward or you can select a day to advance to from the Pick a Date field.
You can see what is scheduled to be promoted on other days and which days have empty slots. If your group is already promoting something on a day, you will not be able to select a day within 2 days of that other promotion.

  4. Check the Agree checkbox to acknowledge the rules for promoting content.

  5. Click Promote. You will return your event with a banner that states “Your promotion has been created…”

Managing Your Promotions

Admins of a group will see a Promotions tab within their group that will show all upcoming promotions. Click the Cancel button to cancel any upcoming promotions you no longer want.
