Signing in to Windows laptop for the first time from off campus using the Global Protect VPN Pre-Logon

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to sign in to a Windows laptop for the first time from off-campus using the Global Protect VPN Pre-Logon. Following these steps will ensure a successful connection to the VPN and allow users to securely access their accounts and complete the first-time login process.

1. Boot up the machine to the login screen

2. Once you get to the main login screen, look towards the bottom right of the screen. Ensure that you are connected to a wireless or wired network.

3. Select the network sign in option. It will appear as two computers or a lock symbol depending on the version of Windows.

4. Global Protect will begin attempting to connect.

5. In the pop-up box, enter your UMBC username and password.

***Please NOTE**: You cannot press tab to move between boxes and must click on each field before typing.

6. Click "Log In"

7. Confirm your 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) with Duo Mobile.

8. The computer will complete the connection to the Global Protect VPN and show this screen when successful. Click the "Back" button to be redirected to the login screen.

9. Select "Other user" at the bottom left of the screen.

10. Enter your credentials here for your account and the first time login process should begin.
