Instructor-led training (ILT) is offered prior to and during the registration and advising period each term. It is also available on a requested basis throughout the year. The ILT is typically offered as a comprehensive lunch & learn demonstration, and outlines the steps required to navigate within the Advising Center, as well as a discussion of the available reports and how to use Advising Notes and view Advising History for a student. To inquire about scheduling an upcoming Advising Center lunch & learn, contact Susan Dawson at sdawson@umbc.edu.
Best Practices
Below are a few suggested best practices.
- You must disable pop-up blockers for the site in order to successfully use the Advising Center.
- Each link within the Advising Center opens a new browser window. If you are finished using a report, it is good practice to close the window in which the report is displayed to help eliminate confusion.
- If you do not have a student's Campus ID, use the Lookup Person feature in the Faculty Center of myUMBC to conduct a search.
