Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery - Staff Wiki
Minutes_041608
Present: May Chang, June Yang, Tom Beck, Susan Graham
Since there is no metadata librarian, we will have to put in as much description as we can until a cataloger can help assign terms
Once a cataloger is available to work on digital projects, s/he will start attending the CONTENTdm group meetings
Workflow will be managed by a librarian and a cataloger (for metadata)
All group documentation should be put in a shared space so that all group members can access them, either in the wiki or the Allshare
ETD progress
Waiting for FTP
Using Proquest metadata: Proquest sends everything to us in XML, they give more information than we need for our metadata
LEC meeting 4/22/08
Topics to be discussed include staffing requirements due to Sharon's departure (i.e. do we need a digital initiatives librarian?) and status reports on our projects
Ad hoc Scanning
E.g. for patron requests, selections for online exhibits: We will load these into CDM under Photo Collections, "Other Collections" and put the number of objects scanned and the total number of items in the collection (e.g. 5 of 5,000). If we scan more of a particular collection, it will move out of "Other Collections" and into its own collection in digital collections
The Retriever Weekly in CDM
TRW has back issues already in PDF from 2003 onward, we could ingest this and do retro conversion of older issues prior to 2003 (older ones may have to be outsourced)
This could possibly be a 50th anniversary project
Once we have collections publicly available in CDM, May will set up a meeting with faculty advisor Chris Corbett to discuss their interest in sharing their digital files with us
Scanning Priorities
We have the projects we are working on now (Hine, Civil War, ETD, some UARC photos have been uploaded, Tom's list), and we are working on the infrastructure and getting CDM up and running. A digital initiatives group, which will involve deciding on digital projects, will come later.
Website Designs (CDM interface)
We will have something interactive in Flash to put up for our soft launch in the summer and then later get a graphic design student to design something for our next iteration
The first iteration will be a simple yet attractive design that can be used as templates for different collections
The title should be Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery Digital Collections
