Web Committee Bylaws

Mission

The Web Committee was formed to advise and assist the Web Services Librarian in the creation and maintenance of the Library website.

The main goals of the website are as follows:

  • Website design highlights research functions and provides a clear path to core tasks. (For the purpose of design, we consider students and faculty to be our primary users.)

  • Users can access online resources and information.

  • ‘Ask a Librarian’ button or contact information is visible during core user tasks.

  • The Library website meets WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility guidelines (http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/) and is regularly evaluated with the WAVE tool (http://wave.webaim.org/).

  • Use responsive design to allow users to access the site with their preferred devices.

Members of the committee primarily represent and advocate for the needs of their department.  They are expected to promptly communicate with their department about the projects and decisions of the Committee.

Membership

Membership consists of one representative from each department in the Library: Circulation, Reference, Administration, BMS, Acquisitions, Collection Management (A&R and ILL), Special Collections, Media, Serials, LITS.  The committee is headed by the Web Services Librarian (who may also serve as the Reference representative).

There are no term limits, but members must be re-appointed by their department every two years.

Duties of Members

Attendance: Members should expect to meet monthly, though there may be more or fewer meetings depending on web projects.  Members must attend at least half of the scheduled meetings in any six month period.  If they fail to do so, the Web Services Librarian will request that the department appoint a new representative.

Communication: Members must relay to their departments information shared in Web Committee meetings.

Maintenance of Department Pages: Members are expected to regularly review their department web pages and relay needed changes to the Web Services Librarian.  If the Web Services Librarian initiates a content review or edit, members are responsible for gathering feedback from their department and ensuring that any edits are reflective of department guidelines and practices.
