How do I apply a blur effect to a video or text using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018?

This video showcases how to apply a blurring effect to a portion of a video or text file using the 2018 version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

  1. Launch Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 from your computer.

  2. Click on New Project.

  3. Give the project a Title, and choose the Location of your final output file.

  4. Click OK.

  5. Right-click anywhere in the "Import Media to Start" area.

  6. Choose Import.

  7. Find the file to be imported, select it and click Import.

  8. Drag & drop imported file to the Timeline area for editing.

  9. While holding down the Alt keyboard key (a.k.a. Option key on Mac OS), click on video in V1, drag up to V2 (makes a copy).

  10. Click on the Effects tab on the menu bar.

  11. Keyword search for the Gaussian Blur effect.

  12. Drag & drop the Gaussian Blur effect to layer it over the duplicated video in V2.

  13. Customize the effect by adding your Mask (options include Ellipse or Polygon).

  14. Resize & position (drag) the chosen mask over the area to blur.

  15. Adjust Blurriness (enter a desired number that offers the best blurriness effect).

  16. Optional: Use the "Track Selected mask's Forward or Backward buttons to make additional adjustments or use the video's scrubber tool for movement adjustments.

  17. To export final product - click on the File menu, select Export, then choose Media (may also use the, Command + M keys on Mac OS).



Keep in Mind...

  • Requires Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 license (allowed only on UMBC-issued Laptops or Desktop computers).

  • Can be time-consuming and may take multiple attempts to perfect.

  • Use CTRL + Z or Command + Z keyboard keys to undo any mistakes.

  • May add as many masks within the same video as needed.
