Before You Begin...

Advising Authorization is a task performed by Advisors after a term has been activated for registration.  All Undergraduate Students at UMBC must have Advising Authorization before they can register for classes.

Beginning spring 2023, students will be given permission to register for the upcoming semester by removing a new service indicator rather than the custom Eligible to Enroll page.

Go to the student’s Advising Authorization tab in the Advising Profile to bring up the service indicator page and remove the hold. The link will be identified with “Spring 2023.” The link for Fall 2022 will not be available after 9/14. NOTE: Please use the Fall 2022 link up until 9/14 when clearing students for Fall 2022 late registration.

SA Tip

If a student has ever been a different program at UMBC (graduate, certificate, ELI, etc), you will likely need to use the scrolling arrows to ensure you are on the correct authorization page.

Notes about Advising Authorization

Summer and Winter sessions do not require advising authorization.

Non-degree seeking students do not require advising authorization.

Five Ways to Get Started as an Academic Advisor

The Manage Service Indicators page includes every active service indicator that the student has. The Advising Clearance Required service indicator has the code “ADV.” Select the advising clearance hold to remove it.

Click “release” to release the advising hold on the student’s account and allow the student to register for the upcoming semester.
