Navigating in Student Administration

Navigating in Student Administration is a hands-on class designed specifically for staff in the Core Offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, and CPS. This 2.5 hour class will focus on the basic navigation required to begin using Student Administration. After completing Navigating in Student Administration, you will be able to

  • Login into the Student Administration database.
  • Navigate the menu structure.
  • Recognize how to use the search pages and the search features
  • Recognize the different data entry fields and successfully enter data in each type of field
  • Recognize and discuss effective dates.

The pre-requisite to taking this course is to complete the on-line SA Overview presentation, available via the Student Administration website at www.umbc.edu/sa. Navigate to the End-User Support tab.

Student Administration and the Graduate School - Lunch & Learn

This 4 hour class is designed to prepare you to begin creating classes in Student Administration. The prerequisite to taking this class is the Navigating in Student Administration class. By the end of this course you will be able to: Discuss how SA impacts the overall business process of scheduling classes

  • Navigate in Curriculum Management
  • Recognize relevant terminology
  • Identify the components of the screens
  • Create a new basic 3 credit class
  • Edit a basic class
  • Create multiple sections for a class
  • Cancel a class
  • Create a Special Topics class
  • Create an Independent Study

  • Determine when it is appropriate to create each type of associated class
  • Create a class with a one to one association
  • Create a class with a one to many association
  • Create a class with a one to any association
  • Create a class using wildcards
  • Creating a class with multiple meeting patterns

Advising students using the tools available in SA provides a meaningful starting point for Advisors.  From reviewing student transcripts on-line to performing a degree audit for a student, this course will provide Advisors hands-on experience in:

  • Viewing your list of Advisees
  • Viewing student transcripts
  • Viewing a degree audit for a student
  • Entering advising notes
