How do I get started with Google Gemini?
Getting started with the Gemini AI could not be easier. Simply navigate to http://gemini.google.com from your preferred browser. From there you may be asked to verify your UMBC credentials, and after doing so you will be presented with the app. After entering a prompt, Gemini will respond and Google provides a number of ways to interact with and use that response.
Gemini accepts a thumbs up or thumbs down rating for its responses as a way of improving through training. It is important to note that while you are logged in to Gemini with your UMBC account, your chats will not be used to improve the Google models.
Prompts can be entered at the bottom of the page.
Images can also be added to a prompt by clicking the "Upload Image" icon on the left side of the prompt bar.
Gemini offers a voice-to-text option for prompt generation as well which can be used by clicking the "Use Microphone" icon on the right side of the prompt bar.
If you have multiple Google accounts and are unsure which one is currently in use with Gemini, do the following. Hover over the circle with a letter in it in the top right of the page. This will show the name and email of the currently logged in profile. Clicking on this circle will allow you to manage or sign out of the current account as well as add additional accounts.
At the top of the left side of the page, you will find the "Expand Menu" icon.
This will open a menu where you can start new chats with the "New Chat" icon as well as view old chats. At the bottom of the menu there is an option to view the "Gem Manager", the "Help" page, the "Activity" page, and the "Settings" page.
