How can I tell if a book is available to check out?
Answer
In the catalog record for the item, look at the location, or click on availability and check the collection and status of the book.
Items in the following locations (collections) can be checked out:
Stacks – Books on floors 3 - 7
Stacks - Folio – Over-sized books on floors 3 - 7
Media Stacks – Videos, DVDs and CDs kept on the 2nd floor
Leisure Reading - Popular fiction and non-fiction located in the 1st floor Leisure Reading Room
Items in these locations (collections) cannot be checked out:
Serials Stacks – Journals, magazines and newspapers kept on the 2nd floor
Reference – Books on the first floor
Government Documents – Located on the lower level
Special Collections – Located in the Special Collections Department on the first floor
Books and media items may be checked out by someone else, and thus unavailable at any given time. In the catalog record, the status of the item will be tagged as "checked out" and the due date will show when the item is due to be returned. You can place a request on an item and the Library will reserve it for you when it is returned.
