Can I borrow books if I am not a current UMBC student?

Answer

Current USMAI students, faculty and staff may use their campus ID card to check out books. UMBC also has reciprocal borrowing agreements with several area colleges.

UMBC Alumni should first obtain a UMBC Alumni Card from the Alumni Relations Office and then register at the Library Check Out Desk to get a free special borrowers card. 

Other patrons may purchase a Special Borrowers card at the Check Out Desk. Persons holding Special Borrower privileges at the UMBC Library are permitted to borrow up to 25 circulating items from UMBC's general circulating collection; non-print media are not included. Most books are loaned for a 28-day period with a limit of 2 renewals; other materials may have a shorter loan period.
