Creating a wiki account and sign-in

Programs:

Confluence: This is the wiki software, accessible at http://spaces.umbc.edu

InCommon/Shibboleth:  This is an authentication software that allows your main institutional ID (for example your e-mail address or your intranet sign-in) to be used across a wide variety of participating programs and organizations.  Your institution must be a member of InCommon for this to work but you do have the option of creating an ID that can be used with InCommon-enabled programs - not just Confluence!  Currently only the University of Maryland, College Park and UMBC are members of InCommon.  Other MHCC member institutions will need to create an ID using...

ProtectNetwork:  ProtectNetwork serves as an additional authenitication program for users who are not authenticated through InCommon.  You will need to create a user ID and password.  This user ID can be used for other programs, not just Confluence, and it is accepted through the OpenID program (for more information, please see OpenID's website).

Logging on to the wiki:

1. Go to http://spaces.umbc.edu

2. Click on the "Log In" link in the upper right corner

3. On the following screen you will see the option for UMBC user sign-in on the left and the InCommon sign-in on the right.  Using the righthand screen, select your institution's name from the drop down list. If your institution is not listed, select "ProtectNetwork".

4. ProtectNetwork allows Confluence to authenticate you as a user. You will need to register here with a user id. **Please note that your password cannot contain non alpha-numeric characters.

5. Once you have registered, return to spaces.umbc.edu and log in using your ProtectNetwork ID (do not enter the @idp.protectnetwork.org suffix)

6. After you have logged in, email Lindsey Loeper at lindseyloeper@umbc.edu with your user name. She will add you to the list of approved users to edit the MHCC wiki and e-mail you with a confirmation.

7. From the main Confluence home page, called Dashboard, you will be able to see a complete listing of the public wikis that are set-up at this time.  Once you have been added as a member of the MHCC wiki you will see MHCC listed under the "My" tab on your Dashboard.  You will also see a wiki named with your user id - this is your own space and you may use it as you like, or not at all.  From this user space you can edit your user profile and display name (called Full Name) which will be displayed when you edit, comment, or create a page throughout all of Confluence.
