EDS vs. Ebscohost

Ebscohost databases are in some ways 'legacy' EBSCO products for libraries. They precede the development of EDS, and they include America: History and Life, CINAHL, APA PSycinfo, SPORTdiscus and so on. Many of these databases existed independently of EBSCO as for-profit or public/nonprofit databases until they were either bought, licensed or repurposed by EBSCO for inclusion in their array of databases.

Although all subscribed Ebscohost databases can be enabled in EDS for user searching, they still are accessible as standalone databases, and many are indexed by libraries on their 'databases' pages for users. Some faculty prefer to use them - and/or have their students use them - because they specialize in one area (or a few closely related disciplinary areas) and thus produce smaller, more focused result sets.

Ebscohost databases use the SFX link resolver rather than Full Text Finder or most other EDS custom links.

The following is a list of all Ebscohost databases (as of this writing).

Note 1: Included in this total are some of the large, general EBSCO databases - namely, the Academic Search databases and the Business Source databases . While these are not narrowly focused disciplinary databases (in fact, EDS in large part relies on them for records and content), they technically belong to the Ebscohost array and so are included here.

Note 2: The 'American Antiquarian Society (AAS) Historical Periodicals Collection' Series 1-5 are represented here both as series collections and by each of their individual sub-collections, e.g. "Periodicals of the British Empire and Its Colonies, 1702-1879." This causes a rather significant inflation of the list, but I include them here for the sake of comprehensiveness, and because they, like all of the Ebscohost databases, can be put in custom Ebscohost profile groups or linked to as individual Ebscohost profiles (more on that in the 'profiles' section of this documentation).
