Instruction & Presentation Resources

This is a place for all librarians who are required or interested in doing instruction, training, and presentations to get and share active learning techniques, teaching tips, and additional resources. Feel free to add content.

Training, Workshops, & Discussions Offered:

  • December 15, 2010 1:00-2:00 (259)
    This session will include open discussion, a demonstration of one active
    learning technique (jigsaw), and a brief overview of additional resources.

  • December 21, 2010 11:00-12:00 (259)
    This follow up session will give participants a chance to practice (or
    observe others practicing) the jigsaw technique in a casual classroom
    environment.

  • March 3, 2011 2:00-3:00 (259)
    This session will include a demonstration and discussion of Turning Technology audience response system ("Clicker") and the School Vue survey system.

Examples of Active Learning Techniques and Tools:

  • Jigsaw Classroom - A teaching method that also encourages listening, engagement, interaction, peer teaching, and cooperation by giving each member of the group an essential part to play in the academic activity.

  • Audience Participation through Online Survey Tools
    Clickers (Turning Technologies) - Remote personal response system used to gauge student understanding and experience.  30 available to borrow through DOIT.

    Turning Technologies Website - download TurningPoint Anywhere software
    SchoolVue - Classroom control software available in 259 that includes a survey tool.
