What hardware and software is available on the library computers?

There are about 230 workstations in the Library distributed on floors 1-7 and in the Retriever Learning Center. Three computers in the RLC are also equipped with Kramer Via devices which allow patrons to have group access to those computers.

Software installed is described below; additional software cannot be loaded on these computers. The library does not offer access to Linux or Unix; the PC labs in the Engineering Building (ECS) dual boot into both Windows 10 and Linux. 

PCs:

  • Located on floors 1 - 7 and in the Retriever Learning Center

  • Software includes the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and common web browsers. A full list of software on public access computers is available here: Library Lab Image Software

  • CD-RW/DVD+/-R drives

  • USB ports

iMacs:

  • 20 machines located on the 2nd floor of the library

  • 30 machines located on the 7th floor of the library

  • One FireWire 800 port; 7 watts

  • Four USB 2.0 ports

  • SDXC card slot

  • Slot-loading 8x SuperDrive with 4x double-layer burning (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

  • iMac Software

Digital Media Lab:

Scanner Workstations:

  • 1 PC scanner located in the Reference printing/copying area on the 1st floor

  • 4 Scanner kiosks also located in the Reference area 

  • 4 Mac scanners located on the 2nd floor near Serials
