- Using the UMBC Residential Network (ResNet) requires that your computer sign in with your account. There are a few steps necessary to do so using Windows.
- If your software requires connections that are being blocked by the ResNet firewall, see How do I exempt my computer from the Residential Network firewall?
If you're running Windows 10, you can use the automatic setup script to configure your computer to use the residential network:
1. First, download the following two files: SetupResNet.cmd and Ethernet0.xml . Open your download folder.
2. Open your download folder, right-click on SetupResNet.cmd and select "Run as Administrator".
3. Click Yes to allow the script to make changes.
4. A black window will appear as the automated setup process is completed.
5. When prompted by the setup script, disconnect and reconnect your network cable.
6. You will be asked to sign in. Enter your UMBC username and password.
7. You should see a window telling you that Windows can't verify the server's identity. Click Connect.
8. You should be connected to the internet in a few seconds. You should not have to repeat these instructions when you connect in the future. |
Note
If for some reason this process doesn't work, you can follow the instructions on How do I connect to the UMBC Residential Wired Network using a PC running Windows 10? (Manual Configuration).
