- Using the UMBC Residential Network (ResNet) requires that your computer sign in with your account. There are a few steps necessary to do so using Windows.
- Some steps are necessary only for Windows 7; they can be skipped with newer versions.

Windows 10 Automatic Setup
If you are running Windows 10, you can try the automatic setup script instead of the rest of the instructions on this page. Once you are plugged in and can access https://resnet.umbc.edu, use the following steps:
- Open the Start Menu, and type "\\resnet.umbc.edu\setup" and press Enter.
- You will be prompted for a username and password. Enter "resnet" for both.
- A window containing two icons should appear. Right-click on SetupUMBCResNet and click "Run as Administrator".
- A black window will appear as the automated setup process is completed.
- When prompted by the setup script, disconnect and reconnect your network cable.
- You will be asked for a username and password. Enter your UMBC username and password.
- A window should appear, asking you to confirm the server before connecting. NOTE: This window may appear behind your other windows. Click Connect on this window.
- If for some reason this process doesn't work, you can follow the rest of the instructions on this page.
Note
If you already plugged your computer into the network jack, you will need to disconnect and reconnect the network cable after following these steps.

2. This will open the Services window. Scroll down to "Wired AutoConfig" and double-click it. |  |
3. In the window that opened, set "Startup Type" to Automatic, and click Start, then OK. Then close the Services Window. Make sure to click Start before proceeding to step 4. |  |
4. Open the Start menu and type "ncpa.cpl" and press Enter. This should open the Network Connections window. Right-click on the entry for your wired (not wireless) network adapter and click Properties. |  |
5. In the window that opened, click on the Authentication tab, and make sure "Enable IEEE 802.1X authentication" is checked. Note If there is no Authentication tab, go back to step 3 and be sure to click Start. |  |
6. Click Additional Settings. In the window that appeared, select "Specify authentication mode" and select "User authentication" from the dropdown list. Press OK. |  |
7. Now click Settings next to "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)". In the window that opened, click "Configure" next to "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)". Make sure "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password" is unchecked, and press OK on both windows. | |
8. If you're running a recent version of Windows, you will see a login window appear; enter your UMBC username and password, and you should be online within a few seconds. You should not have to repeat any of these steps when you connect in the future. |
If you're using Windows 7, you'll need to follow additional steps.
You may need to use the Wireless network to download it, or copy it over from another computer with a flash drive. Double-click the file. | |

4. On the next step of the wizard, click "Place all certificates in the following store", then "Browse", then select "Trusted Root Certification Authorities". Press OK, then Next. |  |

9. Press OK on both windows. You should see a notice that you need to enter your credentials to use the network. Enter your UMBC username and password, and you should be online in a few seconds. You should not have to repeat these steps when you connect in the future; it should connect automatically. |
