Scope: Many resources and services of UMBC's Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery are available without charge to corporations and individuals who are not UMBC students, faculty or staff. The following labor-intensive special services are available for fees:
Reference/Research Consulting:
- $90/hr., billed in increments of 15 minutes.
- Intended for in-depth assistance on research problems and requests for staff to provide information rather than assist users to find information themselves.
- Staff assisted data-base searches on metered databases, with requestor present: charges from data-base supplier and $90/hr. for staff time, billed in 15 minute increments.
- User is informed of fee structure and agrees to pay for services in advance.
Interlibrary Loans:
- For individual, card-holding Special Borrowers only.
- Requestor held responsible for return of borrowed materials and payment.
- Requestor stipulates maximum willing to pay at time of request.
- Loans are delivered to Circulation desk for pickup.
- Photocopies, faxes, electronic documents delivered to address specified by user.
- Resubmission due to faulty citation from requestor treated as additional request.
Low Priority Service
- Processed after the processing of requests from UMBC faculty, staff and students.
- Turnaround: delays for this level of service during peak requesting periods (especially November and April) can exceed three weeks in addition to delivery time. Estimated average turnaround: 5 weeks.
- Charges are $5 per item requested plus the charges from the document supplier, regardless of whether request is filled.
Regular Priority Service
- Processed with equal priority to those from faculty, staff and students.
- Turnaround: average is two weeks.
- Charges: $15 per item requested plus the charges from the document supplier, regardless of whether request is filled.
RUSH Service:
- Processed within 24 weekday hours, with follow-up during the subsequent 24 hours, if request is not filled.
- Turnaround: typically, following day for fax or electronic delivery; one week for mail delivery.
- Charges: $25 per item requested plus the charges from the document supplier, regardless of whether request is filled. Typical Rush charges from document suppliers range from $15 to $100 per item.
Services for materials held at UMBC:
For any of the above classes of interlibrary loan service, if the material is found in the local collection, the same fee structure applies.
Payment:
Due upon receipt of services; further services denied until previous bills are settled.
Method: check made out to "UMBC" or billing to corporation when arrangements have been made in advance: i.e., billing address, corporate authorization, payment mechanisms and eligible borrowers established prior to first request.
