How do I add attachments to my RT tickets?

Tell me

  1. Complete the Create a Ticket form. Here's the instruction on how to create a ticket.

  2. Scroll down to the field labeled Attach a file and click Choose File.

  3. Navigate to find the document you want to attach. Click Open.

  4. When finished, scroll down and click the Create Ticket button.

What should I do if my attachment is too large?

On all RT Forms, the maximum allowed size for an uploaded file is 8 MB.  If you need to attach a file that is larger than 8 MB, you can upload it through Box.

  1. Follow the link: https://umbc.app.box.com/
And log in using your myUMBC credentials.

  2. Once logged in, you will notice a large black button on the upper right side of your screen that says Upload with a small arrow next to it.  Click Upload, then a small dropdown will appear. Click File.

  3. A window will open up that will let you choose the file you want to upload - it will be the same window you see when attaching your file to the RT form. After a moment, the file will be uploaded to box, and you'll see it appear on the list in the middle of your page.

  4. Alternatively to steps 2 and 3, you may also drag the file directly from File Explorer (on Windows) or Finder (on Mac) into your Box window, and Box will handle uploading the file from there.

  5. If you highlight over the file in the list, it will turn grey and you will see three buttons appear on the right side of the file. The left button has a picture of three dots. The middle button has a picture of a paperclip. The right button simply says "Share." If you click the middle button, Box will automatically copy a link to the file you uploaded.

  6. After that, please return to the RT form where you had been attempting to attach the file.  Instead of using the "Attachment" field, please right-click into the Message field and click Paste.  The link will appear in the text box, and once you have finished typing the rest of your message, click Submit.
