Creating a VoiceThread assignment requires two steps: First, you must create the link and point values in Blackboard. Next, you must click through to VoiceThread using the link to select the type of VoiceThread assignment you want students to complete.
STEP 1: Add a VoiceThread link to your Blackboard course.
- Log into Blackboard and access your Blackboard course.
- Choose a place in your course where you want the VoiceThread link to reside. You can also place a VoiceThread activity within a Learning Module or Folder.
- Select a content area from your course menu.
- Click on Build Content from the menu.
- Select VoiceThread Activity.
- Enter a title for the VoiceThread (required) and add a description (optional). NOTE: The description cannot contain any line breaks or multiple paragraphs.
- If this VoiceThread is a graded assignment, enable grading by selecting the YES radio button. Enter the number of points possible. Assign a due date if appropriate.
- Click SUBMIT to save.
- Select a place on your Course Content page.
- Click the purple (+) to add content anywhere on the page where you want to place the VoiceThread. This includes inside folders or Learning Modules.
- Choose Content Market.
- Scroll down the list of available tools to the end where VoiceThread is located.
- Click the (+) in the lower right corner of the VoiceThread Activity to add it to your course.
- Click on the overflow menu (...) on the far right of the VoiceThread.
- Click EDIT to modify the VoiceThread settings in the Ultra course.
- Click on the title of the VoiceThread to rename it. Add a brief description to provide context or instructions to the students.
- Check the box for "Create gradebook entry for this item"
- Set a due date for the VoiceThread assignment. If you do not want a due date, please see this FAQ → How do I set an Ultra test or assignment without a due date?
- Set the point value for the VoiceThread assignment.
- Choose a category from the available list. You can also create a new category in the Ultra gradebook and assign it here later.
- Set the activity so it is visible to students.
- Click SAVE.
STEP 2: After you have added VoiceThread to your course, you’ll need to decide what you want students to see when they click on that link.
- Start by clicking on the link you’ve just created.
- A new window or tab will open to display VoiceThread.
- The VoiceThread set-up page will open.
- Select Assignment Builder to create a graded assignment for students to complete.
- Select the type of VoiceThread assignment:
- Create a VoiceThread to submit for a grade.
- Comment on a VoiceThread you have created. Note: Private comments do not count.
- Watch a VoiceThread from start to finish.
- After you’ve selected the type of assignment you’d like to create, you’ll be walked through the steps to complete the setup process. Options include:
- Include a description for your assignment
- Select a VoiceThread you’ve created for the Comment or Watch Assignment
- Decide whether students are allowed to resubmit their assignments or if the first submission is final
- Require a specific number of comments for the Comment Assignment.
