TS Meeting 11/03/10

Meeting minutes taken by Vicki Sipe.

Present: Lynda, Tricia, Michelle, Jo Ann, Vicki, Pat, and Jen.

  1. Announcements
    • New Digital Media Librarian, Eric Jeitner, starts Nov 29, 2010.
    • New Circulation Billing Technician, Richard Hamilton, has started.
  2. LEC update
    • Archives month (Oct) very successful. 
    • Retriever Learning Center update 
      • Discussion of bathroom and additional cleaning needed when RLC open.
      • Construction start in late Spring-early Summer
      • Furniture---discussions with NCE about furniture (same company as furniture in CASTLE).  Mid May-Aug.
      • Larry and Joyce met with new Campus Police Chief and Deputy.  Generally discussed security issues, but also with focus on what will be in place for RLC. 
    • Slide Library--Room has been made in Media to house this, but there has been interest expressed by someone else on campus in housing it. 
    • Larry will follow up on lids for garbage bins.  Noted that mouse and fly situation in TS and A&R have vastly improved since garbage moved outside.
    • E-Resources Committee reported
      • Tests being set up for several e-resource vendors: Ebrary, EBL (Ebook Library) and MyiLibrary.
      • Lynda will put together an FAQ on what files are supported by following ereaders: Nook, Kindle, Sony and iPad.
    • Reviewing Library Guidelines on food and noise.
    • Update report to Blue Ribbon Committee is being drafted.
    • The Library is moving forward on Students' request for double sided copying and printing.  
    • Serials cancellations are being worked through.
    • RDA Toolkit contract is with Legal Counsel at CP.  They are talking to ALA about contract on behalf of UMBC and CP.
