We are proud of our award-winning employees! This page includes awards and recognitions they've received over the years, with an emphasis on UMBC awards.

UMBC Provost's Library Faculty Award

Awarded every two years to a member of the AOK Library & Gallery faculty with permanent status who has made significant contributions to the Library and the University through service, teaching/librarianship, and research, sustained leadership and performance, and working above and beyond assigned responsibilities.

UMBC Presidential Faculty & Staff Awards

  • 2021 - Kathy Chetelat, Interlibrary Loan, Karen L. Wensch Endowment Award for Outstanding Non-Exempt Staff
    • This award was established to recognize outstanding non-exempt staff in one or more of the following areas:  fully engaged with the UMBC community; dedicated to UMBC; routine performance above and beyond the requirements of the position; extraordinary customer service; personal commitment and persistence in the work; excellent problem-solving skills; high professional standards; community involvement off campus; and advocate for non-exempt staff at UMBC.

  • 2021 - Vicki Sipe, Technical Services, Lavender Legacy Award Nominee, LGBTQ Faculty/Staff Association (TH: I know Vicki was nominated for this but I don't know who actually won. Anyone know for sure? Web searching turns up 2020 award winner but not this year's)
    • The Lavender Legacy Award is awarded to a past or current LGBTQ+-identified UMBC community member who has left a timeless impact on the UMBC LGBTQ+ community and who have been part of the UMBC community for at least three years. This person has gone above and beyond by demonstrating leadership in the LGBTQ+ community through demonstrating courage, compassion, partnership, and/or common courtesy. This award may go to anyone who's priceless contribution to UMBC's LGBTQ+ community echoes the celebration of diversity our institution is known for.
  • 2019 - Beck Hertl, Reference, LGBTQ+ Advocate of the Year, Mosaic Center (TH: I need to check with Beck to see if they have some award text to share. This stuff is really hard to find on the website]
