Adding and Deleting Resources in EBSCO Holdings Management

Holdings Management (HLM) is relatively easy to use in most cases.  The majority of our serials subscriptions occur through EBSCO, so most titles and packages are enabled for us by EBSCO in Holdings Management.  If we need to enable a title or package ourselves, it is usually fairly straightforward.

  • To add entire packages: search by the package name under “packages”, click “not selected”, and choose “select entire package”

  • To add selected titles in a package: search by the package name under “packages”, click the title of the package, click the “titles” tab, and change ‘not selected’ to ‘selected’ for desired titles

  • To add titles individually: search under ‘titles’. When you find the desired title, you will see a list of available packages.  Choose the one(s) through which we subscribe to the title, click ‘not selected’, and choose ‘select this title.’

NOTE: If you have a list from the publisher or other source you can trust for accurate holdings information on titles, i.e. our coverage dates for full-text availability, it is a good practice to spot-check titles to see if they appear to match the contractually guaranteed availability.

  • To add custom packages: In rare or special circumstances, UMBC may have a collection of titles that are both a) not purchased through EBSCO and b) not available as a preexisting package that can simply be selected in HLM. (An example of this would be AOK Library’s print serial holdings.) In these cases, uploading title lists as custom collections is possible. Under ‘Overview’, go to ‘Quick Actions’ and click ‘upload your holdings.’  Detailed directions for uploading titles can be found at https://connect.ebsco.com/s/article/Holdings-Management-Uploading-Your-Holdings?language=en_US .

NOTE: When uploading titles, make sure to keep the ‘Add/Update to existing holdings’ default.  The other option will wipe out all other titles from HLM, thereby destroying all access and patron searchability for all titles.  They shouldn’t make this button so easy to choose.
