Navigating in Student Administration is a hands-on class designed specifically for staff in the Core Offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, and CPS. This 2.5 hour class will focus on the basic navigation required to begin using Student Administration. After completing
Navigating in Student Administration, you will be able to:
- Login into the Student Administration database.
- Navigate the menu structure.
- Recognize how to use the search pages and the search features.
- Recognize the different data entry fields and successfully enter data in each type of field.
- Recognize and discuss effective dates.
- Search for students' records.
The pre-requisite to taking this course is to complete the on-line SA Overview presentation, available via the Student Administration website at www.umbc.edu/sa. Navigate to the End-User Support tab.

This 4 hour class builds upon the skills and concepts learned in the Fundamentals course. By the end of this course, you will be able to: Discuss how class associations work in SA
- Determine when it is appropriate to create each type of associated class
- Create a class with a one to one association
- Create a class with a one to many association

- Create a class using wildcards
- Creating a class with multiple meeting patterns
Navigating in Self-Service
The Faculty Center is the hub for self-service faculty functionality. The hands-on course will provide an introduction to the Faculty Center. By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Navigate in the Faculty Center
- Describe what you can do in the Faculty Center
- Define relevant terminology
Course Management
Whether Faculty needs to print a class roster or give permission for a student to attend your class, there are many facets to the live cycle of a course. This course will provide hands-on experience for Faculty to:
- View your schedule of classes for the semester
- Print a roster for a class.
- Give (or decline) permission to a class.
- Post Grades for a class.
Advising Students
Advising students using the tools available in SA provides a meaningful starting point for Advisors. From reviewing student transcripts on-line to performing a degree audit for a student, this course will provide Advisors hands-on experience in:
- Viewing your list of Advisees
- Viewing student transcripts
- Viewing a degree audit for a student
- Entering advising notes
