If Windows or your anti-virus software is telling you that Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLDB) is malicious software or malware, you need to adjust your settings or turn off the anti-virus application while installing or using RLDB.

Most Respondus problems are due to one of the following:

  • Firewall conflicts > turn off the firewall
  • Anti-Virus software conflicts > turn off the anti-virus program
  • Accept Cookies: Each time you launch Respondus LDB, you will be asked to accept cookies, and depending on your computer's settings you will be asked if the program you downloaded can "make changes" to your computer.

Security software or an "anti-malware" program with very high settings might falsely detect LockDown Browsers as malware such as a virus, Trojan or parasite. The security program would block the download or corrupt the LockDown Browser installer.

If you are getting an error when you attempt to open the LockDown Browser that says “You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item," it may be an issue with the permissions on your system or antivirus software.
