Message headers can help DoIT staff investigate: - unwanted or dubious messages
- duplicate messages
- delayed message delivery
- other unusual email behavior
Follow the instructions below to learn how to view and forward full mail headers with your mail client. If you are using a mail client not listed here, please contact the Help Desk. When you send the headers, be sure to include a description of the problem or behavior you're seeing, and any background information that you think may be relevant. Instructions Double-click an email message to open it outside of the Reading Pane. Click File > Properties. Header information appears in the Internet headers box. Highlight the information in that box, and press Ctrl+C to copy, and paste the copied text into an email.
- Start Apple Mail.
- Go to the View menu and select Message and then Long Headers.
- Go to the Edit menu and choose Select All.
- Go to the Edit menu again and choose Copy.
- You can now paste the copied text into an email.
- Start Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Go to the View menu and select Headers and then All.
- Go to the Edit menu and choose Select All.
- Go to the Edit menu again and choose Copy.
- You can now paste the copied text into an email.
- Open the individual message.
- At the top-right corner of the message window, click the three dots next to Reply.
Click Show original. - A new browser window will open showing full header information.
- Click the blue Copy to clipboard button.
- You can now paste the copied text into an email.
