- Go to ORCID
- Do a search, then click "Advanced Search." Do all searches in "Advanced Search."
- Put the last name in the last name box. Put the first name in the first name box. If you don't have the first name, put it in the first name box. try to find it using the UMBC Directory. Search. When you get search results, look for an exact match. if there are too many people with the same name, In the institution box, put "University of Maryland Baltimore County". Then click "Search." Check the results for a record with the correct name and institution. If there is one, open the record. If that doesn't find anything, put "UMBC" in the institution Box and click search.
- If you find an ORCID record with the same name, verify it's the correct ORCID for the person, by finding "The University of Maryland, Baltimore Country" or "UMBC" in the employer or education sections. If it does, that's the correct ORCID. If the person hasn't filled those sections in, check any works posted to see if they give the person's affiliation as UMBC.
- Enter the name as given in the right hand column in large bold green letters.
- Enter the ORCID URL in the ORCID field.
- Use the back button to return to the advanced search screen to search the next name.
