Single Sign-on

UMBC uses a single sign-on service which allows users to provide their myUMBC username and password once to a trusted service (Blackboard, myUMBC, and Peoplesoft) and to have their identity securely, consistently and seamlessly provided to many web applications.

Password Requirements

IMPORTANT: The password requirements are, it needs to be a minimum of 8 characters in length and meet the following conditions:

  • Upper case letters
  • Lower case letters
  • Numeric characters (0-9)
  • Special characters ( $,@,!,% )
  • Use words and phrases that are easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess

Security Questions

myUMBC accounts have a self-service password reset facility - this lets you choose a new password if you ever forget the old one. The reset facility uses a secret security question (e.g. "name of your first pet") and answer (e.g. "hunter bean") that you set up as part of the account activation process.

Setup Security Questions

  1. Login to myUMBC
  2. Click your name displayed above the Search
  3. Click Profile from the dropdown menu
  4. In the Online Info section, click Security Questions link
  5. Click the button to Edit your Security Settings
  6. Provide the information as prompted
    • Alternate e-mail address
    • Mobile Phone
    • Choose three security questions, and then create answers that you will remember
  7. Click Update my Security Settings to save the changes you made
