Student Administration Transition
Why is UMBC changing to a new system for student registration, grades, and academic records?
UMBC's existing system for registration and academic records is obsolete and no longer meets the needs of a modern university. The new system we are adopting will reduce the potential for error caused by manual entry of information, will allow for much faster updating of records, and will offer more detailed information to students about their academic progress. This change has been in the works for years and is part of UMBC's effort to provide excellent administrative support to students and faculty so they can focus on teaching and learning.
My advisor does not seem to know how to clear me to register, grant permission to enter a closed course, or operate other features of the new system. What do I do?
Ongoing training in a variety of formats is being offered to faculty members and professional advisors across the campus. While it may take some a bit longer than usual to accomplish the task, there are instructions readily available on line and assistance available from the Department office and from the Office of the Registrar. Soon you will find that faculty advisors across the campus have made the adjustment and are feeling comfortable with the new system.
