LITS Student Work at the Reference Desk

 

During hours agreed upon by the information technology librarian and the Reference Department, a LITS student employee will be available at the Reference Desk to assist with technology related questions.  The student will sit at the back desk and will answer questions by referral from the reference librarian.

Questions directed to the LITS student will include:

-Login issues only related to a particular machine (patron is able to login to other machines)
-Printer issues including: unable to find library printers on list of printers at work station
-Unable to save documents/files to computer/my documents folder
-Software on machines does not work, is not there, or is having license issues
-Questions regarding setting up a laptop and logging on to the wifi

For the purpose of clarification, these questions will be directed to the Technology Support Center:

-Account based login issues (no servers available, password incorrect, or does not have an account)
-UMBC email questions
-MyUMBC questions
-Blackboard questions

These questions (among others) will be handled within the Reference Department:

-Off campus access
-Database questions
-serials questions
-Library account questions> refer to Circulation
