Departmental Minutes  April 12th, 2011

• Kathrine Sylva is coming to the Library the week of April 16-20.  She will be with Technical Services on Tuesday, April 17, 2011 from 1:00-4:00.  She will begin in Acquisitions at 1:00, they will explain the ordering process then move onto Darlene so she can show her the receiving of the books.  She will then move over to Vicki to show her the physical processing of records in the cataloging system.  Ping will then show her how to physically label the books and let her do some on her own.  Jo Ann will then show her the processing of books and how to repair the books in mending.  Finally, she will see Tiffany to show her ebooks and if time permits she can be shown how to weed books. 
  
   

• Dr. Hrabowski will be coming to the Library on May 15th, 2011 and will be touring several departments.  Technical Services will have 5 minutes to discuss 2 key points.  Some of the possible topics discussed today were Information Technology, PDA, Dissertations, Balt. Hist. Soc.  Michelle will be starting an email with some initial ideas.  We use the subject “Hrabowski’s visit” for the email.  Everyone is supposed to look at it and contribute, edit, tweak, etc. so we have  starting point for our next discussion.  People are ask to look at it between now and the end of the day on Wednesday, April 18.  The final version of our 1-2 key points is due to LEC by their April 24 meeting.

• LITS is working on the next computer buy.  Part of that will be buying additional wide-screen monitors for staff who need one and do not have dual monitors.  So far, Darlene, Ping and Pat would like one.  
  
   

• May 3rd will be the Student Appreciation Party for Library student workers.  It will be in 767 from 12:00-1:30.  Lynda volunteered to coordinate the set-up so if you are interested in helping, please let her know. 
  
   

• Tentatively, May 8th will the the departmental end of year party for students.  Laura is graduating this year.  Lynda asked and everyone is okay with inviting the LITS students.  We have checked with Karlene and Mariam but will wait to see if Laura can come.  We need to order a couple of vegetarian or cheese only options.  People will bring some extra items including vegetables and fruit. 
  
   

• May 14th will be the cookie giveaway to students if you would like to participate please let Lynda know.
