How do I enable Respondus Lockdown Browser for Chromebook?

The Chromebook extension for LockDown Browser is currently available for assessments in both Original AND Ultra Blackboard course. This version of the LockDown Browser Chromebook extension also supports Respondus Monitor.

The LockDown Browser for Chromebook setting is enabled by default for all Respondus Server profiles. Once you enable LockDown Browser to be used for a quiz, the LockDown Browser for Chromebook quiz-level setting is also automatically enabled (just like how it's done with LockDown Browser for Windows and Mac). When you allow an exam to use the Chromebook version of LockDown Browser, it will automatically launch LockDown Browser at the appropriate time.

If you are teaching an Original course:

Tell Me

  1. Access your Original course.

  2. Go to the Control Panel.

  3. Expand Course Tools.

  4. Select Respondus Lockdown Browser to open the Dashboard.

  5. Expand Advanced Settings.

  6. Select the option to Allow students to use LockDown Browser for Chromebook.

If you are teaching an Ultra course:

Tell Me

  1. Access your Ultra course.

  2. Select Books & Tools.

  3. Go to the LockDown Browser Dashboard within Blackboard Learn Ultra

  4. Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam

  5. Expand Advanced Settings

  6. Select Allow students to use LockDown Browser for Chromebook (beta)

  7. Save the exam settings for LockDown Browser

If the instructor allows an exam to use the Chromebook version of LockDown Browser, it will automatically launch LockDown Browser at the appropriate time. Students using a Chromebook will need to use the regular LockDown Browser installation link for UMBC. The installation link will take them to the Chrome web store, at which point they should select “Add to Chrome” to install the LockDown Browser Extension.

Limitations and/or known issues with LockDown Browser for Chromebook (beta):

  • Quiz passwords aren’t currently supported

  • The “Early Exit” feature in LockDown Browser isn’t currently supported

  • LockDown Browser’s Calculator and Spreadsheet features aren’t currently supported

  • The extended keyboard functions (for adding symbols and special characters) isn’t currently available
