How does my TA access Cengage Mindtap or Aplia?

The Cengage Mindtap and Aplia integrations in Blackboard allows an instructor, TA, or student to access the publisher tool through Blackboard. The TA role is mapped to the same privileges as the Instructor, allowing the TA to view course content, assignments, student submissions, and grades in Cengage's platform the same way as an instructor.

Two components are required:

1. The course itself must be set up for synchronization with Cengage Mindtap by the instructor.

2. The TA must have Cengage Learning Faculty Credentials.

Cengage Learning Faculty Credentials are required to access the Mindtap course materials and synchronize a Cengage account to a Blackboard account. This synchronization does not need to be repeated after the first time.

If your TA does not have a Cengage Learning Account, they must click Create an Account to request one. Identify the course instructor or department chair as the supervisor.

Open Access the tool link in Blackboard created by the instructor. Select a New Create Account button.

Open Fill out the Cengage Learning account registration form. Identify Your Instructor or Department Chair for supervisor.

The request must be verified by Cengage staff. NOTE: UMBC instructional technology staff do not have access to any Cengage system admin tools to manage this component. Once the account is verified, account information will be sent by email.

When the TA returns to the Cengage tool link created by the instructor, logging in will connect the Cengage account to the Blackboard account. Once those accounts are connected, the TA should be able to access the Cengage materials using the link set up by the instructor in the Blackboard course.
