How can I use QR Codes to track participation in myUMBC?

  • Having attendees scan a QR Code with their cell phone is an additional approach to tracking attendance, along with scanning UMBC ID Cards and hand entering attendance. Using this approach does not preclude you from scanning or manually entering IDs. You can use a combination of all three as useful and applicable.

  • Scanning QR codes enters participation in real time. No special hardware is needed for this process. Print out the QR code ahead of time and attendees will use their own smartphone.

  • To be able to track and view participation on a myUMBC event, you must either be the admin of a group or the creator of that event.

Check In QR Codes allow event organizers to download and display a QR code, allowing event attendees to check themselves into an event using their own smartphone.

  1. Download the Check In QR Code from the myUMBC event.

  2. A QR code specifically tied to the myUMBC event will download as an image file. Print out, or otherwise display the QR Code.

  3. At an event, an attendee will scan the QR code using an application on their phone with a QR Reader, built in camera scanner, etc. (Did you know that the official UMBC app has a built-in QR code reader?) The attendee should scan the code with their phone.

  4. On loading the webpage: if already logged in, the below confirmation step will display. If not logged in, the attendee will be prompted to sign-in to myUMBC with their username and password.

  5. A confirmation message will display to the attendee.

  6. The checked-in attendee will then immediately reflect on the Participants box of the myUMBC event.
